Ceres Diadem

My entry for ~pagantribalart's August harvest contest. (That's all the edit was -- carry on citizens, nothing to see here.)

This head-thing was designed to be flexible and versatile; it can be adjusted to fit a number of hairstyles and can be worn as a tiara, bunwrap, or backpiece. Loops on each end accommodate bobby pins... or a chain extension: if you're feeling wacky, this piece can be turned upside down and worn as a necklace.

The harvest motif features rice stalks, wheat, corn, pumpkins, grapes, and acorns, interspersed with autumn-hued blossoms.

Crafted with Swarovski crystals, white freshwater pearls, mother-of-pearl, green and peach aventurine, sunstone, carnelian, goldstone, citrine, peridot, jade, green Baltic amber, rhyolite, red tiger's eye, Czech glass, and tiny seed beads. Wired with copper and rolled gold. (My first non-silver piece! Whee?)

Ceres was the Roman goddess of agriculture and grain. She was a beloved goddess of the harvest and was credited with teaching humans how to grow, preserve, and prepare grain and corn. She was thought to be responsible for the fertility of the land.
